Dreading Armageddon and the Babylon the Great? As for Babylon the Great, in the 16th century, Luther, Calvin, and the Reformers believed it was the Roman Catholic Church, the all-powerful European institution in their day. In the 20th century, however, the Second Vatican Council reformed Catholicism; in 2008, Benedict XVI pronounced that Luther’s teaching of ‘justification by faith’ was right all along. This book shows that Babylon the Great is much older than Catholicism – almost as old as Creation – and much larger and more pervasive than we may have suspected.
